Closure to the story...

I bought a new set from Home Depot. They were the cheapest that were actually a name brand. American Standard "Cadet" model. Cost $139. Installation was a breeze. What a difference in quality of American made VS Chinese made.

Came with a new drain as well. New cable drive plug. Nice design.
