    Appendix carry?

I was shopping around for a couple of holsters and was surprised by the number of appendix carry set ups. Any thoughts on this? The whole idea of sitting down and having the muzzle of my gun pressed against my crotch area or any major arteries gives an uneasy feeling.

That looks really uncomfortable to me.

But I have my stereotypical southern gut hanging out in front of me too, and already tend to unzip my pants when I sit down.

I don't think I would be able to tie my shoes.

Been carrying a Glock 19 appendix IWB for 6 years in a cheap Blackhawk holster. I can run, jump, tie my boots, and even take a whiz while carrying.

Ummm, nope I'm not liking that option. Looks like it either blows off your junk or shoots out your Femoral Artery.

Maybe those are all the reasons for so many of these holsters on the used market...hmmm

    I use one of these:

I felt nervous at first, but knowing Glocks don't go off unless the trigger is pulled I got more comfortable. The pistol is drawn and pointed away from your body before the holster breaks away from the trigger guard.

You're more likely to shoot yourself via a negligent discharge from a conventional holster.

I'm going to start out with 4 o'clock carry (kidney carry? lol), but I understand the benefits to appendix carry for some. Some food for thought.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time; the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them. ... Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep for ever."--Thomas Jefferson

Never considered an apx....I carry Sig iwb at 4 o'clock. Comfortable and safe....only potential draw back is getting seat belt off if needed...

    Good article. Thanks.
For me, appendix carry seems to be the easiest way to effectively conceal larger handguns. Even in a snug t-shirt, people never notice my G19. I don't bother with the little-bitty single stack pistols any more.

^Agreed. Unless somebody is really looking for the print it's not very visible in most situations.

It depends on what I'm doing and wearing but I usually find appendix carry easier to conceal and more comfortable especially in a vehicle. I carry both a commander 1911 and a SIG 938 in an appendix rig.
It takes a little getting used to, and with the 1911 I have to get used to bending over differently or it'll dig into me pretty hard but it sure doesn't ever print or pop out like 4 o'clock.
