How many rounds does it take to kill an M16.

I thought some of you might find this interesting. It chugged along better than I would have thought.

I like that you can watch the muzzle device unscrew itself around the 7 minute mark

At 3:13 the mag wasn't quite finished by maybe 5rds. If you will notice that sometimes the bolt is closed when he changes mags and othe times the bolt is half closed.
And listen to the 60rd mag, it fired at the same rate and time as all of the 30rd mgs It wasn't 60rds compared to the latter 50 rd drums.

Cool video. The title sort of reminds me of the old commercial with the Owl being asked, how many licks does it take to get to the
center of a tootsie roll pop?

I agree. He was running a firearm through a failure test with his face unprotected.

It looks as if the barrel just melted. It would be interesting to see that same test done on a AK, or any other modern battle rifle for that matter.

I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. I also think the guy should have been wearing much better eye protection and or a face mask, espeically since he was trying to get the gun to fail and firing it full auto. On full auto there is a very good chance you won't have time to stop firing in the event of a chatasrphic failure. I will say though I learned a lot and have a bit more respect for the AR design then I did before.

I saw a video back in 2002 I think it was of a guy running an AK at Knob Creek MG shoot until the handguards caught fire. The vid didn't last until point of failure, but I bet it did show about 500 rounds dumped.

Seems funny watching a real test and noting that most stanag mags were empty in around two seconds. Compare that to movie mags where the bad guys fire ten to twenty second bursts, and the rifle never gets hot.

I want one of those movie guns and not these real ones that run out of ammo so quickly and get hot.

    Ditto the want on that.

Very interesting and it was cool watching the gas block & tube start glowing which is what I thought would fail first ... The barrel blowing out was a complete surprise and I would have thought it was a squib had he not shown the footage.

    Thanks NAPOTS

It's funny you mention that. I remember reading a few years ago that the military went to a heavier barrel on the m4 because the barrel would fail under sustained firing

I remember watching that video, too. IIRC, the barrel was glowing an orange color and the hand guard caught on fire and the guy stopped shooting it. (Kind of hard holding onto something that's burning.)

Guy is a dumbass imo. As stated he's lucky he didn't end up with a face full of rifle shrapnel. Waste of an FA weapon & ammo.

The registered lower receiver is still working fine.

Also the ammo isn't wasted if he earns enough ad money in the views for that video to replace the upper and the ammo.

Could have been a post sample for all we know. Worthless to anyone other than the guy who it is registered to.
