German Army Drops H&K G36 Rifle

It looks like H&K is having a major problem with the long range accuracy of their G36 Assault Rifle. It tends to lose accuracy when it gets hot.

The German Army is dropping it from their arsenal.

I was just wondering. Does the M-16 lose any accuracy when the barrel heats up?

When all the plastic fantastic HK designs came out they were owned by a British equity company....that was after their first bankruptcy....shit just went downhill after that, and so for 2 and a half decades... HK has never been a "private" company since. The German Govt. has been the controlling interest in the company for years now....HK today is nothing but a shadow of HK 30-40 years ago.

Pencil thin barrels do..but then again anything with a pencil thin barrel will...or in the case of the G36, too much polymer used in certain areas

'“The G36 apparently has an accuracy problem in high temperatures and also when it's overheated from firing,” von der Leyen said.
Don't all rifles suffer from this?
What are they going to replace it with? M4?

Cryogenic treatment of the barrel would seriously minimize the change of cold vs. hot and it will make the barrel much tougher. Barrel life is extended at least 2X over non cryo treated barrels.

They should crank up the East German AK factory and make some '74s in 5.56.

But seriously, any rifle is less accurate after the barrel heats up. Unless the G36 is somehow exceptionally more inaccurate when the barrel gets hot compared to others, I fail to see why they're concerned. Oh well, the G36 is fugly anyways.
