Colt has been phasing themselves out of the firearms market for years now. Their guns are overpriced and they haven't really introduced anything new in decades. They've stuck with the 1911, but other companies produce that, too. Their revolver market has been taken over by Spanish and Italian companies, not to mention Ruger.

Their biggest, recent sellers, the AR15 and M16, have lost ground to other companies, too.

They haven't produced anything innovative to perk up any buyer interest.

They've done very little other than rely on their past fame to sell overpriced guns.

The market is no longer interested in their product line.

They relied on their miliary contract for the M4 for a long time and shit on the citizen consumer. Once they lost their lawsuit over exclusive rights to the M4 I think it was all over. Like alismith said, no new products. They killed the python and anaconda off and I have heard the quality of their 1911s is not befetting the price. That said, I would love a blued 70s series.

Yes as many have said, no new products and riding on past glory for too long. Colt I think was taken over by non gun people in the 1980's and they started screwing it up. They discontinued the Peacemaker, then later as pointed out the Python and the Anaconda. All were very popular and they dropped them from standard production. In some cases relegating them to their "Custom Shop" with a retarded huge price tags on these weapons. Also I would opine that Colt is what happens when a Union labor force's demands for wages and benefits suck the cash flow out of a company so they have no money to update equipment and run R&D programs to come up with new products.

On the non gun side of it; Colt Industries came up with Crucible Steels. These are alloys of Tungsten Carbide with Steel to make super tough high wear resistant steel alloys called CPM 9V, 10V, 440V etc. I remember when these started showing up in the mold building industry in the early 1990's. I think Colt Industries decided at that time to make their money with these specialty metals and screw the gun industry over and their consumers.

    Figures.
He drew a comparison to Hostess Brands, the maker of Twinkies, which like Colt suffered poor labor relations and was liquidated during its 2012 bankruptcy.
