That is my usual local news station, and I turned that off less than 30 seconds into it. Just the early previews was enough to make me sick.

Ok, so I can understand that if someone is poor they can talk themselves into believing that stealing is the only means they have for providing for their family. This does not excuse or condone it, I can understand how they can talk themselves into believing wrong is right. Where this line of thinking breaks down in this case, and where the mother's idea that these were just "lost little boys who had lost their way" falls apart, is when the rapes (called a less evil sounding name of "sexually violated") start. Being poor cannot be used as an excuse for rape. In fact, there is no excuse for rape. What was done to those women was done by evil men who wanted to enslave other people for their own pleasure. No, being poor does not explain this behavior and cannot explain this behavior, which is why this evil behavior was glossed over and spoken of in very generic and sanitized terms.
