Top 10 non restricted black rifles in Canada

I found this article to be interesting: http://www.huntinggearguy.com/rifle-...les-in-canada/

    #1: Norinco M14S or M305

Not even close, the Norinco M14s is the one rifle that makes our American compatriots green with envy. For a mere $400, we can get a 308 semi automatic rifle that’s built for reliability and can be tuned for accuracy. While the fit, finish, and head spacing can be on the rough side, the forged receivers are worth the price all on their own. Copies come in shorty 18.5″ barrels and regular 22″ barrels. While the original style M14 was laid in a nice wood stock, recent imports of the Norinco are all in practical black synthetic stocks, qualifying them as our #1 non-restricted black rifle in Canada.
Strengths: cheap, can be accurate, powerful enough for deer and other big game, great aftermarket support, cheap magazines.
Weaknesses: factory headspace commonly quite generous, expensive scope mounts, accuracy enhancing aluminum stocks are heavy, barrels indexing can be off on some, the manual safety sucks.
Who sells Norinco M14s: Wolverine Supplies, Marstar, SFRC, Canada Ammo, Frontier Firearms, and many local gun stores.
    I want a $400 Chinese M-1a Scout Squad!

Wow. It's been so long since the Chinese import ban that I forgot that Norinco was still in business. They made/make great AK's.

    Question

They might be able to buy them in Canada but aren't they restricted to a 5rd mag capacity?

From what our resident Canuk has told me, their rules on limiting capacity are not as strictly enforced as they are by our BATFE. They can buy full capacity magazines and pop a cheap pop rivet in the side of it to limit the movement of the mag follower. So if the SHTF, they can just knock their pop-rivets out and rock n' roll.

Also the M-14/M-1a has a stripper clip guide available for topping off mags with five round stripper clips. The Norinco pictured in the article has one installed already. As a side note, I always wished the Ruger Mini-14 had a stripper clip guide.

Its illegal to use a firearm for self defense in Canada, IIRC, so mag capacity isn't really an issue there.

There are a crap ton of those cheap M14 clones around here. They are junk plain and simple. Every one i have seen so far unless its been heavily modified has been a piece of crap. Soft metal in them. Poor groupings. There was even a case on the canadiangunnutz.com forum where the guy fired the rifle for the very first time and the barrel blew off and landed on the ground ten feet in front of him. if he wasn't wearing safety glasses he would probably be blinded right now. If i had one of those Chinese crap jobs i would sell it and use the money toward a good rifle. They are a toy for the pimped out SKS guys.

Yes Funky you are 100% correct on the mag limit thing.

Here is another way mags are limited in Canada. This is the follower from one of my M1 carbine 15 round mags. It is a piece of coat hanger welded on.

    This too.

I have a Brooklyn Shorty from cold steel as home defence. If i was threatened and knew something was coming I would have a G17 ready in an instant. Pistols are limited to 10 shots, you should see how glock mags are pinned. They stick a pin in the hole you use to see how full you are. It works out to be the number 12 or 13 hole to accommodate the follower.

Luckily for me i live in a really good neighbourhood that is crawling with cops. (Good Canadian RCMP cops) Nothing ever happens here. Not so much as a peep. I actually feel very safe.

Biggest thing that happens in my neighbourhood is people blowing up fireworks and other crap late at night.
