A sailor that worked with me about 7 years ago called me and asked if I would speak at and be the commissioning officer at his commissioning ceremony. It was quite and honor to be asked by him, especially so long after we had worked together. He was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer (LDO) Ensign. When I got to the ceremony I realized something that I thought was pretty cool. The Master of Ceremonies, the person who kept us on track and narrated the ceremony was a LDO Lieutenant who I also had worked with. She had been my Leading Petty Officer (LPO) when I served on the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN. She was relieved as LPO by the person we were commissioning on Friday. Both had went on the become Chief Petty Officers before being selected for LDO. It was pretty cool to see.
It was also fun to watch the family, especially the wife of the Chief and his parents. They were so proud of him I thought they would burst. All in all it was a very good day.
