    Q. What is the best

way to tighten up the gas tube locking bar? I have looked and I do not seem to have a tool that is rounded,
other than a machine hammer, that I can use to tighten that pin flare. So I am thinking about
using a ball bearing and tapping it with a hammer, it doesn't need much but would like any other ideas
    you guys may have.

The ball bearing is actually one of the best ways.
One trick is to use a small vise to squeeze the ball bearing.
Using a small vise eliminates the need for four or five hands to hold everything in a mounted shop vise.
Just pad one vise jaw with brass or copper sheet and squeeze the ball bearing and lever between the vise jaws.
The brass or copper will protect the other side of the rivet from scarring or damage.

Backing up the lever on a brass bench block and tapping the rivet head with the flat face of a ball peen hammer also works, actually better then trying to keep the blows centered in the rivet with the peen side of the hammer.
Tapping with the flat face tightens the rivet nicely, and if done gently won't distort the rivet.
