Many years ago I went to the local store at our cottage to get some food. I was using our little aluminum fishing boat with a 1956 7.5 HP evinrude outboard whose starter cord had just broken (therefore the top was off and I had to start it by wrapping a rope around the flywheel).
Well, I'm docked at the store, my wife and I get into the boat to leave and her father (drunk as usual) tries to dock behind us with the big Chrysler 75 hp tri-hull fiberglass boat. Well, he forgot that "forward" is different from "reverse".
As he was pulling up, he was supposed to goose it in reverse to stop, but he goosed it forward and ran the hull right up on us!
The spinning flywheel scratched up the front of the tri-hull and his boat pushed our stern DOWN as his BOW was sliding up the flywheel.
Fortunately, we had already untied from the dock and I was able to reach out and push off the front of the boat before he pushed our ass end completely underwater.
I had never seen my wife more pissed off than that day. She was screaming at her dad "you fucking drunk asshole!" I just sat there thinking "whoa.... keep clear of the claws".
The art of boating... don't drink and boat. Especially in Canada. The OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) doesn't take kindly to it.
