    Would You Allow It?

Open carry, that is. Texas will begin allowing open carry on January 1st, 2016; however, private businesses will be allowed to prohibit the practice. Businesses can currently prohibit concealed carry if their business has the proper signage, making concealed carry on their property a crime of Criminal Trespass. Under the new law, a business could allow concealed carry, but not open carry. Theoretically, they could allow open carry, but not concealed. Personally, if I were a business owner in Texas, I wouldn't allow open carry in my place. Thoughts?

What if your business were, say, a diner/coffee shop and every time one customer walked in with a pistol prominently displayed on his hip two customers got up and left?

If they got up and left without paying their check, I'd call the police.

Seems to me that that cafe out in Rifle, CO is doing OK. Even the wait staff OCs.

I'm sure that it works in rural America, but in Houston, DFW, etc, it's just not something that someone is used to seeing. Makes them nervous. It's easy to chalk it up to two more "anti-gun retards" and say "good riddance", but they're taking your profits out the door with them.

While I understand your nervousness I think the more people see law abiding citizens with firearms being peaceful and lawful the better off we are. It breaks the stereotype, or at least severely tests it, that people only carry guns because they are looking to shoot someone. The more people see firearms not being used illegally or irresponsibly (ie movies and television use) the less afraid and nervous they will be. Sort of like how homosexuality and abortion have become mainstream. People were shown it over and over again until they were desensitized to how wrong they both are.

Personally I wouldn't care. Bear in mind that initially there may be a glut of people OCing since it's newly allowed but that amount will taper off over time. Also the only way someone would ever notice is if they took their nose out of their smartphone and even then many will assume it's a plainclothes LEO. Perhaps a sign in the window stating something along the lines of "Open Carry is legal and welcome in this establishment".

Yeah I would. The local alcohol distributor when we first got shall issue carry put up a sign no guns allowed. I wrote a letter to them pointing out how much money I spend at their establishment every year along with the point that they were on a boycott list on the internet along with the fact another place in the same town was robbed at gunpoint once their sign went up caused the sign to come down. It's a two way street financially and I would pick values over money.

If I owned a business I would prefer CC. It use to be the Police officer had respect and I still have that respect. The officer would get respect when he walked in the door.

Now a Forthright citizen should also get that respect because he has took a pledge to act right with that hardware.

However, I as a business owner would hope that the open carrier had a ankle back up (or some where) in case a youte got tuff.

Like that movie. What was that name?

    Pulp Fiction?

Wasn't there a time when open carry was the norm in Texas?

And now people think they are getting something special when the state finally allows what was written as legal with blood and courage in the late 1700s.

There is legal signage to address this. 3006 for CC and 3007 for open carry. I have not seen the 3007 sign so I am not sure what it addresses. I believe it can be searched out. My summer home is in an open carry state, but I do not open carry. Why draw attention to yourself? I will not open carry in Texas when it happens Jan 1st. The good thing about the open carry law is it just about eliminates the issue of accidential exposure of your CC pistol or by imprinting on your clothing...

Yes I would. People today are so sensitive about guns thanks to the media. We need to desensitize the public.

Absolutely. That's the way things started in this country and it should be that way again.

Anybody that's participated or even just attended a shooting sports event have been around all kinds of people carrying open. Everybody should attend a shooting competition and see that guns don't equal violence.

No Guns sign.. no business from me. I OC and CC. I'm an Open Carry advocate, and I do it responsibly. So far I've not had any problems, no stops by LEO's, no authoritarian "liberal" crying that I'm scaring them.. it's usually something like "What are you carrying? Is that an XD? What Glock is that? I've stood 2 feet away from a Sheriff and not a word was said about my pistol (cross draw position at that given moment). I'm glad more states are adopting OC, and guess what? There's still not bloodbaths in the street and OK Corral gunfights where it is lawful. But guess where there is still bloodbaths and gunfights... Gun Free Zones and cities with strict carry laws.. go figure...
