    Picked Up a New Toy

Walked into WalMart a few days ago and there was a shopping cart at the door full of pellet guns all at half price. I picked up this for $25. I figure it will be good for practice in town and taking care of small rodents. I know it is not a real firearm, but I still thought you all might like to see it.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Have you heard about the new corduroy pillows? They're making head lines!

Daisy 880. The lever on the bottom is the pump. 10 pumps (maximum) will provide about 750 fps with a pellet.

I got a .22 caliber air rifle. Not sure about the FPS, but squirrel, rabbits (and never a mangy ass feral cat, I swear) are easy prey for it out to 30 yards.

This one is a .177 caliber. Again, good for squirrels and the like. Could take a cat but would have to aim very carefully and not use a BB.

    POWELINE 880.
That was my BB Gun growing up.
I liked that model so much more than the others because of the large lever helps you pump that thing so much faster.

I have an original one from the early 80's and mine is better built and has some heft to it. Not enough to make it heavy but enough that it doesn't feel so cheep.
The lever on mine is aluminum and not plastic like they are now.
I know this because I bought a new one to use for parts to repair my old one.

Don't discount the importance of shooting an air rifle. A good one is perfect way to practice your offhand marksmanship skills. 10 meters or 33 feet is regulation air rifle target distance. Back when I use to compete in rifle matches I would use an RWS 75 HV single stroke spring piston match grade type to practice during winter months.

I did notice this. A friend had one when we were kids and it was definitely built better. It also did not have "Made in China" stamped all over it. I wouldn't have paid the original $50 price but I think $25 is fair. This will suit my purposes, though.

I looked at the GAMO's. They have great reviews but I was not ready to spend that much on an air rifle. I expect I will be soon, though!

I started my kids into shooting with those in a basement range. They were a lot of fun. We wet from them to outdoor 22's then cf's.

I've got an old Benjamin .22 cal bolt-action pump air rifle. Its accurate and hits hard. The new ones are sold as Benjamin-Sheridan.

Does it look like this by any chance? First gun my dad bought me

Shot at a Piney squirrel today that's been eluding me in the barn all summer
Pretty sure I got him but he scurried behind a stack of fence posts. I'll have to check for smell later to confirm

I've had that same model for about 10 years. It's what i used to teach my grand daughter how to shoot when she was 4. This is where she is now, she'll be 7 next week:

I've also killed 5 feral cats, half a dozen cottontails in my wifes garden, and at least 20 flying rats. I paid 50 bucks for mine, you got a much better deal. Pretty accurate with the right pellet. My only complaint is how hard it is to load a pellet with my fat fingers, i keep a pair of tweezers nearby.
