    S&W Stainless 686

Went to the local Marine base today to go to their Exchange (base department store). This Exchange sells firearms so I stopped by to check out their prices. Their prices seem to be much better than at the local AF base Exchange. The gun that caught my eye is a S&W stainless 686 with a 6" barrel for $699. I checked the S&W website and it looks to be about $150 less than MSRP, which I expect is a good price. I don't have a revolver and have wanted to get one and this would definitely fit the ideal I have in mind. I will think about it for a while, I have a few more months before I transfer to make up my mind. The hard thing is I can either join Gun Owners of America and pay for a life membership or I can buy this revolver. Decisions, decisions.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Well, the responsible thing to do would be to support the gun rights group.

However, I've always wanted a 6" 686, so I would probably bite. Although I would personally prefer the 7 round version.

Get the 686. It's a great revolver and I feel there are better guns rights organizations than the GOA but that discussion should have it's own thread in the appropriate forum so I'll leave it at that.

I think you should pop for it ... NOW. I don't own a 686 but I do own an old 66. Always wanted the 686, they are very good quality or at least the last time I looked at them around 2000 they were.

So, I went back to the store today and actually held the revolver. Feels really nice. Also found out more about the price. If I apply for one of the Exchange credit cards I and then use the card to buy the gun I get 15% off. There is also a $30 rebate which brings the total price to about $550. I may have to post in the "one that got away thread". I should never have looked!

And now I see that AIM has CZ83s for about $270. I do not have enough room or money for all the firearms I would like to have!

Local guy has a 66 for sale. 600 cash. If I could I would get it as it was the first pistol that I ever bought. Nothing like the feel of a good heavy revolver in your hand!

And being that it's on base, that $550 is tax-free...
