Question about ejections

How could or would you adjust ejection angles on the
AK? Could you file the face a little to change the grip
by the extractor and change angle, could you change the
length of the ends of the claws? Could you physically change
the angle by bending the extractor?
Or are there other ways to do this if need be?

This comes from another forum where this was asked
and to me seems pretty straight forward that you
should be able to by manipulating the face of the
extractor. What are your thoughts?

To screw with the extractor is a fast track to leaving cases in the chamber. How far back the ejector blade is will change the timing of the ejection and the resulting arc or trajectory of the case exiting the receiver.

So what was their complaint; getting hit in the head or they just anal and want all the brass in a neat pile to their immediate right?

Set up an open box on its side on a table next to where you are shooting. Boom. Poor man's brass catcher. For AK brass catching, one may have to weigh the box down with a rock.

Naw Helen I'll keep my lowly AK. FALs are legendary for their ejections.
The guy on the other site just was distressed about the receiver getting beat up
and it did look bad.
He was asking those guys so I thought I would ask you guys. He also received a lot
of comment about the FALs. Hell since we are discussing FALs what does cause
them to beat themselves up? Aren't most of them x51 NATO? I really don't know
much about them.

what do you mean "Beat themselves up" ????


if I had a nice AK and was worried about the very end of the neck of the case hitting my gun I'd just cover that area with electrical tape, same with the FAL.

They don't really beat themselves up. The steel receivers are not going to be dented by brass cased ammo. Now if they are shooting Wolf or Silver Bear steel cased ammo, maybe it will dent. I just don't put that stuff through any of my rifles in 7.62x51. They will leave brass "kiss" marks on the steel but a good soaking with Kroil and a course cloth rub down should remove it.

As HK said, tape or some even a piece of Eurothane rubber contact adhesived to the receiver should cushion things. FAL rifles can have the gas systems adjusted to give very fierce ejection or very low speed minimal distance ejection. Hell you can even switch them to cut off the gas and run the weapon as a single shot where you will have to pull back on the charging handle to eject a case and then let it fly forward to seat the next round.
