    Work in progress

Made from a Nicholson file, walnut scales. Not finished polishing, or gluing, but its lookin like a knife now.

Hey B how have you been doing? Great looking work but I would figure a file would be to hard.
But what do I know, I do love the way you left the serrations on the top. That really looks cool.

Well that's ... different looking. I've done knives and I know that represents a lot of man hours to get it to that shape and polish. As asked did you leave the temper standard or did you draw it back. I would agree a stock file is too hard and will be very brittle, especially with that needle point.

Very nice! I like the Wharncliffe pattern blades. Is that a chisel grind?

Leaving it hard would make it almost impossible to grind on top of being crazy brittle.

Recipe for making a file knife without a forge: Buy file, place in toaster oven at ~395 degrees for a couple hours, grind with belt sander. Basically, look at the file as pre hardened, then temper it down to where you want and grind. Fully softening it would make it easier to shape, but then you have to harden and temper it again, and risk warping or cracks.

The blade is a slightly relaxed chisel grind, I brought the back in just a little to get it past the teeth of the file, but the primary bevel is on one side only, making it a right handed slicer.

    IIRC, 3 1/8 blade, and 7 1/4 overall.

Very nice looking piece of functional art. I've been using a 4'' grinder and taking it slow on the stuff I've been working on. No belt sander yet. There are so many ways to go about it. Youtube is king for learning and finding other ways to do things. But finding the time to get progress is the hardest part of any build. Awesome work man.
