    Any of you yard rats

use a product called Diatomaceous Earth?
It's natural and I am thinking of using some in my home.
I was helping someone out and managed to introduce fleas
    into my home.

I used to use it in a diatomaceous earth water filter for large aquariums, but have never used it around the house for anything else. However, I did hear that those who used it for pest control were satisfied with its use.

Yeah I have read that there are 2 types, one for pool filters and "food" grade. My niece
brought DE to my attention as she uses it in her chicken coop for mite control. Seems it will
kill anything with a hard shell, fleas, mites, roaches, silverfish etc......
It's kinda high in cost but if it will calm my cats I will be ecstatic
and so will they. They do not go outside, so this is their first experience with fleas.
And they are not pleased with me.....

Yes. when we lived n SoCal we had sand fleas in the backyard of the condo. We put down the DE and it seemed to solve the problem. You can also put it down on the carpet for a day or two them vacuum it up. Also with fleas frequent vacuuming helps. Just make sure you empty the vacuum into a bag, seal it and remove it from the house right away. Same if you have a bag vacuum. You don't want the fleas getting back into the house or their eggs hatching in the vacuum bag while it's still in the house.

It will help to vacuum often, as they typically need a place like carpeting (or animal fur) to lay eggs in. Also, treat your pets and carpeting with something that kills fleas and wash all bedding or you will be fighting this often. One way to trap them or detect their presence is to put a gooseneck lamp over a bowl of water and turn it on, the heat from the lamp attracts the fleas and they end up jumping right into the water to get to the heat source.

We have struggled with fleas off and on for years. They are really tough to get rid of.

DE works if the infestation isn't too bad and works well as a preventative measure. Boric Acid Powder is another good pest control, but more for roaches and ants. I'm not sure boric acid would work on fleas; it should.

Put a night light over a shallow wide bowl of water with 2 drops of dish detergent in the water. This breaks the surface tension of the water. In the dark they will jump at the light, land in the water and drown.

Same thing (but different) works for fruit flies.
Good quality apple cider vinegar in a shallow small bowl and a couple drops of dish detergent and you will get 15-30 fruit flies in about 3 hours.
Change daily as its the smell that attracts and vinegar will lose its potency fast.

Good advice from all. Thanx guys. It is kinda funny, in a sick way, to watch my cats jump around.
But I did put some DE on the carpets and have been vacuuming often and removing the canister
of waste. I also used some flea killer on the girls. It is starting to calm down some but will take some time.
