Ya'll recall in the 80's when it was very close that the ATF was going to be disbanded? The discussion stopper was what to do with all the ATF agents. As federal employees they would get preferential consideration for other federal jobs. So it was floated that the agents would be folded into the FBI. The FBI said under NO circumstance would they accept ANY atf agents. The idea to disband ATF stopped at that point.

Never met an ATF that was equal to FBI.....................course, that may have changed! IMO, FBI is more investigative while ATF is on a crusade!
