Though it is an abbreviation X means Xristos which is Greek Orthodox for Christ. So X does mean Christ, except in a classical language.

I could not give a shit about any of the opinions or assumptions about those things. They should not have passed it. Think I want to fund King Barack Care? Think I want more syrians in this country? December 25 is based on the pre-Christian winter solstice Holiday. Combining winter solstice with the birth of Christ is sort of our own cultural thing. The Dutch actually have separate holidays for Santa Claus (or Sinterklaas) and the celebration of Christ's birth.

I think people get too caught up in the religious aspect. The secularism of the modern holiday ruins it for Christians that think it should be strictly a religious holiday, and some non-religious folks can't seem to enjoy it. I really have no idea why an athiests can't enjoy the secualr aspects of Christmas, and feel the need to totally reject it.
