    Price check. Norinco Underfolder

At the local store. 750.00 In .223. Not sure if it comes with any mags. Decent shape. Looks like Someone replaced the top hand guard with a metal ventilated one. (not sure of proper term) Don't really need one, but just seeing what you guys have to say.

    Pre or post ban?

    http://www.ak-47.net/ak-47/84-s.php

Most old sale listings I found show around $1500-$3200 for NIB with all accessories and mags. Some of those listings are from as far back as 2006 and we know prices for all "assault rifles" have been all over the board since then. If it doesn't have any mags it might be a hassle to find some.

It's pre ban. I didn't ask about mags, just was on my way home and stopped by a store I hadn't been in awhile. Surprised to see it on the shelf.

Even if mags are hard to find..........
The mags are out there, how many rifles can you find?

Unless it was beat to shit I would have left the store with it. Provided it truly is preban and not a MAK variant, the price should be well over a grand even for a good shooter grade. The factory mags are fairly expensive and a little hard to find while other mags are iffy to use. Some have fit Bulgies with success.
We found out what "dealing" with progressive lefties is all about. Our side gives up something, they give up nothing and the progressives come back in a month or a year and want us to give up more... rinse and repeat...

If I saw a true 84S-1 for $750 in good to excellent condition today I would not be able to get my money out fast enough.

Top handguards for Chinese AK variants are the cheapest part of the rifle. The handguards are about the easiest part to find for these Bush1 hated rifles.

At that price, paying a crazy $100 for just one factory mag still puts you way ahead!!!

My 84S-1 is my most accurate of all my AK shooters, and ranks as one of my favorite shooters.

I will go back and look at it again, and ask some questions. The guy isn't known for making deals. But when I was there. They were logging in a new pistol and I heard one of the guys checking gunbroker. So, this leads me to believe that they do check prices. I did a quick gunbroker check and only saw NIB examples. The gun does not look beat to crap.

For intents and purpose. It did look like this.

It was definitely stamped Norinco. I do remember it had the 66 in the triangle stamp as well.

All the mags I found for sale are at $100 or higher. This thread talks about how to covert Bakelite 5.45x39 mags to .223. If it works that might be a cheaper alternative?

It may have the triangle 66, but if a ban model that was debanned it should also have MAK90, BWK92 or some other ban ID and/or the AK84S ground out.

The worst you could do is have a very accurate, NICE shooter...

There are three 5 round mags on gunbroker for $20... They sell at gun shows for that much or more each. There are also two auctions for 30 rounders at $100...

The converted mags were mostly for the SAR3's. I have a couple and most of them can only be loaded with 25 to 28 rounds w/o jamming in the SAR3's. I've heard of better luck with the Bulgie .223 mags and a little filing for proper seating angle/depth. (edit: IIRC, they trimmed down the feed lips also, damn I wished still had the old database I know this was covered.)

But with the price of .223 Bulgies these days, the factory mags don't seem so cheap at $100...

In general Euro .223 mags don't feed well in Chicom AKs without modification. They are not like 7.72x39 mags as there was never any standard for dimensions and feed angles.

BTW, that drum is worth $400...

I got all excited when he started talking about drums. Till he said that it was sold. He did have a Chinese 7.62 drum. But it was broke. The rest is worth looking into. But taking my daughter skiing and won't have another chance to go back until Monday.

The Wiesa Germany mags (Wiegers) as I remember are too wide to fit in the 84S-1 magwell. As ELC said, I have heard the Bulgy .223 mags will work in the Norinco.

Looking at gunbroker the two mags that come with it are Bulgarian waffle mags.

That a Bulgarian magazine would fit where a Wieger will not suprises me. My SAR-3 uses Wiegers and Bulgarian waffle mags. Both fit about equally, never had to mod a Bulgarian mag to fit or work in it.
