    5 Under-Appreciated Semi-Auto Rifles

These are some pretty cool, older rifles that never really made a big splash.

I have the FN-49, but have never fired it yet.

They're so under-appreciated that they all cost around a grand (excepting the mas)........

Never owned most of them. I did at one time have an AG42B, it was mint. I couldn't bring myself to shoot it it was so minty, like it just came out of the arsenal after it was built.

Under Appreciated by US sales.... ask the countries that used them.

I'd still take a Mas-49 over most of the crap out there right now.

I liked the Argentine .308 FN-49 I had, but it was only a safe queen, so I sold it for a profit and got a .308 AR-10. I am happy with the AR-10.

I'd add this to the list for underappreciated modern semi's:

It's my Saiga 308. You just don't see much about them but they are excellent 7.62x51 carbines.

I love my 308 - accurate, durable, reliable, relatively light weight and it's an AK! What's not to like?

I agree,I have both the 16 inch and the 21inch or it might be 22,I can't remember, anyway, they are great shooters, both are pretty accurate.

I've looked at several Remington Model 8 & 81 rifles and thought about buying them but the price was either too high or it was in a caliber that would be difficult to get or reload for. The MAS 49/56 has always been a favorite of mine. The 10rd mag isn't that big a deal as you can swap mags as easy as inserting an en bloc clip in a Garand or you can use 5rd stripper clips which are pretty easy too. Where it really shines is if you modify the 25rd mags for the 24/29.

Had a Johnson Rifle that was somewhat sporterized, sold it for twice what I paid. wish I still had it, it was a good shooter. Still have a nice MAS 49/56. AG42 I sold, never shot it but it was nice looking. RAxar, if you can buy a Johnson rifle for a grand, by all means do so immediately......In fact better yet PM me and I'll buy it......

Anyone remember the guy, (I think he was in PA and his last name started with a T) that did the 49/56 conversions? Don't recall if he did the actual conversion to .308/7.62x51 or not but I know on the ones that were modified by CAI he added an adjustment screw to the gas system and converted them so they would run using FAL mags. Don't remember if the conversion was for metric or inch pattern mags but they seemed to work pretty well for those who had him work on their rifles.

Bill Toth was the guys name. Been bothering me and I finally remembered it. A little searching shows he had a business, Design System Technologies. Wish he still did the conversions.

That's my point, they're "unappreciated" yet people are willing to shell out a pretty big hunk of money to get one.
