Too bad about the officer. I do have a couple of questions though, how do you conduct a "no-knock warrant" by knocking on the door? Secondly, do you carry out something like this without covering all the exits from the dwelling? Besides bad luck it sounds like he may have died due to poor procedures as well.

My wife said she heard that he wasn't wearing a vest. I find this hard to believe and am looking for some
    confirmation. And here it is.

For the life of me all I can figure is they thought it was not going to be a dangerous situation.
Maybe the officer knew the guy and was going to say "just come on and let's get it over with."
    I don't know.

That is a sad story. The article is poorly written and hard to follow. Agree with Richard's questions and have another, why was he not wearing a vest? I can't remember how long it has been since I have seen an officer without a vest.

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

I looked over the article again and it seems that the incident took place in Clayton, GA and the local PD was being assisted by officers from Riverdale, GA who were outside on the perimeter of the apartment complex. Just a guess but I would imagine that as a Major the officer killed probably wasn't in the field on a regular basis and sitting on the perimeter and not being involved with actually entering the residence he might simply have not worn a vest on a regular basis and didn't see the need to wear one on this day given either especially given that he was just on the perimeter.

Like I said, just a WAG on my part but it seems likely that's what could have happened and why.
