To start you have to mill the slot down the right side of the bolt. The firing pin mods ... not sure how much fiddling required to execute that.

longest part is annealing the bolt. on the legal side, the slot is the last thing you do since the blocking bar slot itself in a F/A bolt is considered an MG.

I am so sorry for the F-ed up bolt.
If I had an extra 9mm semi bolt I'd give it to you in a heart beat so you could keep the gun.
BUT, as you have learned, they are non existent at the moment and even I don't have one.

I'm thinking a Carbide bit would do it and a person could skip the annealing. Didn't think about the order of things but yep, I can understand why the firing pin would need to be altered to the Semi-auto mode before the milled slot being added.

sometimes, some of these bolts are so hard I've annealed for 2-3 hours in a furnace and quenched them in clay cat littler for 48 hours.

Sad to hear that it didn't work out. Really amazed that even Vector doesn't have spare bolts.

Thanks for providing me with the information about Vector. Was totally unaware of what happened.

Nice having membership that is so forthcoming with such information.

I'm bummed, too, but it happens. That's the risk taken with buying used guns. Now I'm back to kicking myself for not buying that like new in box IMI Uzi years ago.

I scoured the internet high and low. The one and only source I located selling S/A Uzi bolts who had them in stock wanted $495!!!!

Good catch. That wouldn't cause much of an issue with feeding, though, would it?

I've still got the Uzi on consignment. If it doesn't sell any time soon maybe I'll dick around with swapping out the extractors and see what happens (if I can find any S/A ones).

you can adjust it with a dremel sanding drum really fast too.

want a real answer if the guns dicked up or not take the extractor out and shoot it .

Looking at the picture, it looks like the bottom of the bolt broke off and was either welded back on or the missing area was built up using a welded bead and then badly ground into shape.
Maybe if you took it to some welder you could get a better bead and grind that off better?

    I'd gunbroker it.

The Uzi never sold so I put it back in the safe. I messed around with it and figured out the extractor doesn't work most of the time - cartridges plop off the bolt before they even hit the ejector. I couldn't find any semi-auto extractors for sale ANYWHERE on the net. I did finally find a website selling complete IMI semi-auto bolts for $250, though. The bolt in my Uzi looks like junk anyway, so I ordered one. Hitting "Submit Order" felt like smashing my dick in a slamming door for that price, but oh-well. Update to come when the bolt arrives and I test-fire.

Performance was no different with the new bolt (sucked). The cartridges were not feeding well and would get pinched half way up the feed ramp. The weird thing is that it functioned flawlessly upside-down. I just now polished the feed ramp and hand-cycled it with the old bolt and new extractor - it hand cycles great and launches the cartridges a good 10+ feet. I am not keeping my hopes up for the live fire testing.

a rough ramp or one that's off just a little can ruin everything.
