I think it's due to 5.45 being the current issue. So the former commies aren't just dumping huge caches of mags every other day like 7.62x39 mags. So the demand for them is higher than the supply.

As to it making a comeback, the demand never went away, but 7n6 went from being cheap and plentiful, to banned, limited supply, and expensive. Now that it's pretty well gone, the commercial brands are cranking it out to appease the demands. Just took them a while to catch up.
