In addition to its needed effects, some unwanted effects may be caused by zolpidem (the active ingredient contained in Ambien). In the event that any of these side effects do occur, they may require medical attention.

Clumsiness or unsteadiness
confusion
depression
Rare:
Difficulty with breathing
dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
falling
fast heartbeat
seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there

swelling of the face
trouble sleeping
unusual excitement, nervousness, or irritability
wheezing

Some of the side effects that can occur with zolpidem may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. I believe the phenyl-GABA in this product is an actual drug that will cross the blood/brain barrier - different than plain GABA which will not. I have found Gabatrol to be very effective for getting back to sleep if I wake up too early and it seems to cause a deep REM state.
