    Buddy R.I.P. 8/1/2006 to 8/28/2016

Our family pet, Buddy passed away in his sleep sometime during the night. I've had dogs growing up as a kid but this one was so smart, loving and friendly to everyone. My wife and I are both torn up bad, feels like we lost a human child vs. a dog.

He had boundless energy in his youth.

I understand. We lost our Nancy two years ago and still talk about her. Dogs are really special. And some dogs are even more so.

Sorry to hear it. Sometimes I think not having them would save on the heartache of loosing them but realize the joy they bring would be lost as well.

So sorry, for some reason, I keep thinking of the Subaru Commercial where the Guy takes his 14 Year old Dog on one last Road Trip. As much as I cannot Stand to hear Willie Nelson, or any Country Music for that Matter! He did do the Song well, Yours my Buddy, and my Pal. Sorry for your Loss. Paul

When our pets pass, they take a BIG chunk of our hearts with them! A vet on another forum was a great help to me with a simple poem.....try googling Rainbow Bridge Poem.....this worked for me.

Thanks guys. It's bad enough for me but my wife has been with him every day for the last 10 years. I don' know how she's going to deal with this. We got him for her, every where she went in the house inside or out he would follow. Then if she stayed too long in one part of the house he'd drag her back to where I was. He always wanted to keep "The Pack" together.

I sat with our dog in my lap, and held her while she was passing.

She licked my hand one last time, and died.

I still choke up when I think about her, but it is part of the cycle.

We have to love them more because we don't have them for a long time.

It is sad to lose a member of your family, I am sorry for your loss.

Just a week ago, last Sunday in the early morning hours he got me up to take him out to go potty. I noticed he was barely limping on his left front leg. When he came back in he was really limping like he had only 3 legs. He was whimpering in pain and frankly we thought then he'd had a stroke. The wife and I cried almost as bad thinking we were going to have to take him to the vet and have him put to sleep. We gave him a pain med the vets gave us for him and after about 30 minutes he calmed down and went to sleep. It was so deep we kept checking to see if he'd passed away. Eventually he woke up and seemed 100% normal again. As bad as his passing away was I'm so grateful that I didn't have to take him to a vet to have him put to sleep. This way at least it was natural and not forced.

I'm sure he gave you 2 more love and caress than a child could give.
Despite the dogs don't have spiritual and intellectual development like us; each one is unique, with particular personality... His quick passage in our lives on this world is striking and irreplaceable, the void left by the absence is immeasurable.
Over time the pain's loss will decrease, but his memory will never erase! In your memoirs he will go on living, and on your longing will be forever present…

I wish you strength in this day so sad for you, Schuetzenman!
    Warm best.

It's always a sad day when they go. Yet, we move on and eventually get another dog to love ....and go through the cycle once more.

I'm very sorry to hear that you lost your dog. I was devastated when I lost mine back in 2012. Just thankful I have another by my side now.

Sorry for your loss, Shuetz. I've been through it a number of times over the last 50 years or so & it's never easy.

Sorry to hear this Schutz and yes, it does hurt. Nothing wrong with admitting this. I dread the day that my Chester passes. And I've grown very fond of his "little sister" too....

Just need to remember that its a natural part of life and cherish the time you had together. Its like a fast forward of our human lives and relationships...

That was the case for me. After I lost my dog a year ago I did not entertain the idea of getting another one for months. But when I finally did get another dog, it was one of the best things I ever did. I adopted a 2 year old dog from the animal shelter that had been starved and abused and he has bonded with me like no dog I have ever owned.
