Color me surprised.
There was a show on PBS a couple of years ago that covered this. At some point in their late teens, the youngsters are allowed to live outside the restrictive dictates of their adult lifestyles. Some never return to that lifestyle and move away. Some don't even get to see their parents again. It may be that old adage about "sowing their wild oats" and getting some things out of their systems before settling into that lifestyle.
