He posts over at DEMUNDERGROUND, but I am fairly sure you really didn't want to know!

They're saying they're going to remove vast quantities of co2 from the atmosphere and turn it into alcohol. Well, the plants of the world may have something to say about that. Interesting concept, cheaply turning co2 into fuel, but that fuel has far less energy than gasoline per unit of volume and is corrosive to plastics and metals in some instances. Also, to really get best efficiency out of an alcohol fuel you must employ supercharging or at least a very high compression ratio in piston engines. The common ratio today is around 9:1, a 12:1 ratio would be better for alcohol but very dangerous to engines designed for low octane street gas used today.

    Speaking of Science.....

Scientists have successfully turned mouse skin cells into egg cells and used them to create viable offspring without the use of actual eggs for the first time.

Just a small percentage of the mouse cells created in the lab led to live births, researchers reported Monday in Nature, but the healthy pups that resulted from these sci-fi pregnancies provide hope that similar techniques might one day aid human reproduction.

In theory, techniques like these could even allow two biological men to co-parent a child without the use of an egg donor.

Methanol is CH3OH and Ethanol is C2H5OH.

    They look like this:

    (Methanol) ------------------------------(Ethanol)

Simply reacting CO2 with water in the proper manner could be used to make alcohol, but I have no idea how complicated or expensive (energy wise) the process would be.

I wonder if it's worth it?

On a similar note, as you know the US built huge plants in Tennessee and Washington State to produce the fissile material for the atomic bombs. And, of course, these plants and the processes that they used consumed tremendous amounts of energy.

I wonder, in the end, if the energy output of the atomic bomb is less than, equal to or greater than the energy used to extract and refine the U and Pu?

What I mean is, using arbitrary numbers, say "one gram" of fissioned uranium releases one megawatt of energy. Does it take MORE than one megawatt of electricity to refine that one gram, or does it take less?

I've searched a lot and asked a lot of people and nobody seems to know...

Funny thing- if that ethanol is used as fuel, it just goes right back to CO2.
    Hmmmm....

And I really don't care about FAGC, using his name was just a throwback to when we used to argue endlessly about climate

It's obvious you asked the wrong people.

    The answer is 2.

See? Easy, if you know who to ask.

Does anyone know what LAGC actually meant?

I mean, I always mocked him, calling him 'Loose Ass Gay Cock" but does anyone know the actual meaning of the acronym?

    Just curious.

Really, they should use METHANOL as a fuel.

It contains the most hydrogens per mole of the alcohol family, and the least carbon (i.e. most of the exhaust is water and the least is CO2 - plus burning hydrogen gives more energy than burning carbon does).

Maybe but unless somebody tells them they won't be back. It'll take 1 post and I'll pull their plugs out again and make it to infinity.
