    .380 ACP vs .38 special

Paul and I go way back. We served together and deployed to Iraq together. We have been making these videos for a while now. I thought you might enjoy.

I think this was an interesting video and thanks for posting it. The only test I ever did with a .38 Special was shooting a pumpkin at about 10 feet with a Glaser Blue Dot. It blew up the pumpkin. I then shot another pumpkin at the same distance with a Mini-14 with 55 grain FMJ ammo. I was surprised that the .38 Glaser did a lot more more damage than 5.56 ball. Not sure what this means with respect to stopping power unless one is attacked by a pumpkin.

It has been a long time! I was wondering what you have been up to. When I get home tonight I will watch the video. It will be interesting as in the last 18 months I bought both a .357 and a .380.

    I thought the .38 spl was closer to a 9mm Luger than a .380.

Well done. Very informative. You said you have more of these? I am going to look for them.

Good stuff. IMHO, shot placement trumps all else - given you have an adequate caliber. But even the lowly 22 LR solid will do the job is you put them in the heart lung area.

I carry a G23 most of the time but do have a S&W Body Guard .380 for when I want a pocket gun... stoked with Hornady Critical Defense rounds which have mixed reviews... but again, placement is key.

That would be my opinion as well but it does depend on the ammo bullet weight. I draw the line at 9 mm myself. I don't carry anything smaller.

.38 special is weak sauce. according to Hodgdon's load tables you are looking at around 1000 fps with a max load with a 125 gr bullet.

With a 9mm you are looking at more like 1100 fps with a 124 grain bullet. Bullet diameters are for all intents and purposed the same.

I know with my N frame shooting .38 special out of it makes it feel like a cap gun
