    308 plinking ammo

I see Cheaper Than Dirt is offering me .308 ammo. Concerned about using this ammo in a fine rifle that has not seen anything but Federal BTHP match.

Any opinion as to which ammo will work well with or not effect the performance of the rifle?

The German MEN ammo looks good on paper.

    Thank's

If it's brass cased German milsurp, it's GTG. Do clean the bore well after shooting in case the primers are corrosive. Hot water, dry and Hoppes will do the trick.

I would not shoot the Russian steel cased crap in your rifle.

German milsurp isn't going to have corrosive primers with respect to 7.62 NATO.

What is the expert's thoughts on TULAmmo steel case chepo stuff in my 191A4?

I bought 1000rds and linked it all just for the gun. its not corrosive, and its not precision ammo, But will that steel and lacquered stuff shit up my barrel?

The Browning 1919a4 was designed to last.

NO, this is internet bullshit. Think about it, if theres that much stuff on the cases how do guns chamber/headspace on ammo that would be completely out of spec due to this coating??

take a piece of normal 308 brass and a steel cased 308 and tell me which one is easier to damage/deform. For a round that typically handles around 52K PSI, if your gun would be affected by a teeny tiny squishy steel case- you'd be dead already since parts would have failed within the first 200 shots .

bite a bullet, seriously, bite one and if your teeth leave any mark at all its not hurting anything.

overheating/poor cleaning make up for barrel wear .

The only weapons in my collection that get Rusky steel cased ammo are those designed for it. AK's in particular. SKS's for certain. They have chromed chambers and barrels and loose tolerances. I don't like it for anything else. Personally.

A 1919A4 should be OK with steel cased and copper over steel jacketed bullets. The WWII 1919 MG's firing M2 ball made in the USA were firing copper plated mild steel jacketed lead core ammo. Only the cases were brass / non steel construction. Extractors are not very expensive. 1919 guns are designed to have the barrels switched out easily.
