What state is that in? Haven't heard anything on the news about any fires on the Appalachian Trail.

They have closed 45 miles of the trail south of Stecoah Gap in NC.
Have the authorities caught the arsonists?

I do believe this is a separate fire. The fires we saw were south of Gatlinburg and Sevierville. Sadly, they were also arson.

Hmm, not really the burned area. We hiked the 17 miles from Stecoah Gap to Fontana Dam and it was so smokey the entire time that we saw maybe an hour of other peaks.
