Just after 7 a.m. Saturday, a 78-foot-long wooden patrol torpedo boat from World War II rolled through the Warehouse District, starting at the National World War II Museum.

After it passed around and behind the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to the Erato Street cruise ship terminal, a crane lifted the restored boat, PT-305, onto a Mississippi River barge that would take it to the Industrial Canal for sea trials and crew training.

By April, museum officials hope to launch the boat on Lake Pontchartrain, where it will be housed in a custom-built boathouse and will be available for rides.
