    Anyone making new Garand rifles?

New-production Springfield Garand. For $1250 he's better off finding a real one, though.

FN-49 is an option, but these are in Garand territory as far as prices go.

    A $400-500 option would be a Remington 7400

I have a Remington 7400 and it is an amazing soft shooter for a 30-06. Accuracy is also really good for a long distance semi-auto. Before moving to suburbia I had a 500 yard range in my backyard and with iron sights and a little wind doping was able to hit the target fairly easily. With a scope it is a tack driver.

OUT of curiosity though, why 30-06 when most things are more abundant in .308 nowadays. i only went with it for everything cause im basically set for life on reloading materials.

That locking bolt in the 742 led to many rust issues when hunters neglected to maintain them. The ones I have seen at most fun shows were suspect. The difference between the 742 and the BAR are amazing. BAR is so smooth.

That one at gunbrooker right now and closing tonight looks to me to be a nightmare.

Sorry dude it looks to much like a "normal" rifle. If you don't spend a k
    on bs it don't work.
