Went to a POST-election gun show and walked out with another classic

Today was gun show day, and I must report that compared to the pre-election gun show, the place was a ghost town. It's been a long time since I didn't have to shimmy past crowds of dudes just to look at something. Anyway, today I walked out with a like-new 1999 Ruger Mini-14 Ranch with the stainless finish and a wood stock for $660.

Nice! Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

If it is anything like mine it will shoot better. Let us know.

I had one at one time - very similar to that but it had a bayo lug and flash hider on it. Was a Nebraska State Trooper trade-in. I really liked it but you have to be OK with 3" groups at 100 yards. I was able to get better groups with select handloads but not less than 2" consistently.

I don't know why I felt that it should do better when all of my AK's shoot about the same.

Sadly, I let it get away from me.

Funny thing is, right next to this one was a law enforcement stamped Mini-14 GB right next to this one that originally caught my eye until I saw the $1400 price tag. Then I looked at the one next to it and took it home.

It's a bummer that you let yours go.

Magazines have always been the weak link in the Mini 14 product line. The factory magazines are the best and Ruger used to not sell them to civilians. I'm not sure if they ever pulled their heads out of their asses after Bill Ruger died.

I've heard the metal reinforced Tapco mags are actually pretty good for the mini-14.

Since Bill died, Ruger has become a completely different company (in a good way). I was able to locate a factory 20-rounder at the LGS.

I had a Mini 14 that I bought from Wally World. I liked the gun fine until I shot my first AR. The Mini was a ton heavier than the AR. I traded the Mini for a Garand.

Good to hear since they're a lot cheaper. The newest version of the Tapco mag, from what I've seen, is reinforced with metal in the necessary areas.

I have one just like yours that I inherited from my father years ago. Accurate.....not really...but I don't care. I have other guns that are tack drivers. I do wish a "bull barrel" was made for it.

went to a post election show. walked out with beef jerky, pickles, and a hatred of vendors.

pricing was as if shrillary won. hope most of them go broke, and die homeless....

and, the stun gun people, cracking them off constantly.... I would buy one to sterilize the asshat selling it.

You picked up a nice classic rifle Skorpion. There's a local gun show in my area on President's Day; I'm looking forward to dropping by and possibly getting a new rifle myself. I hope the crowds will be modest as well.

I hope the pricing is better there than in oaks.

    7.62x39 at 29 cents a round?

Thanks. Good luck at the sho you're going to!

It was a toss-up among this Mini, a Vulcan Yugo RPK for $1200 and a Springfield Armory FAL from the 80s for $950. The FAL was really tempting because I know those old Springfield-imported FALs are good to go and sell for much more, but I hardly shoot .308 as it is any way. I've got a bunch of 5.56/223, so I went with the cheaper Mini-14.

If you include shipping, that's actually about the going rate for x39 even online right now. Steel-cased .223 is actually cheaper than steel-cased x39 right now, believe it or not. I miss the days of $80 per thousand.

Honestly, I just buy all of my ammo online. Here's a link to a site with 7.62x39 for 26 cents per round with free shipping.
