    Did he say that about the Sherman because all of the German tanks were destroyed by 1945?

    Yeah that was the first thing that came to my mind also. While I am not a military
    historian I do not remember our tanks being held in high esteem.

    The Garand was light years ahead of the Mauser & Arisaka 5-shot bolt guns no doubt.

    At least the Tommies had their 10-shot magazine Enfields.

    He wrote this in 1945 right? By that time we were about to start fielding the M26 Pershing Tank, with the 90mm main gun. It was the equal of any Tiger or Panther of the war. I was thinking he was referring to late war tanks

    Ok. But I will say that they learned a hard lesson but have never looked back.
