NO kidding. I asked my friend yesterday what he thought. Back in the 1980s, his uncle DIED (here in California) when a HUGE wild boar attacked him and the tusk ripped up his femoral artery in his thigh. The guy fell down a ravine, but he bled out in 4 minutes, nothing anyone could do that quickly and get to him fast enough.

    I'm going with a 7.62 Semi Auto !

I didn't look at the whole menu but I did not see Boar. Prices were decent though.

I think the Game Plate with the different sausages is seasonal. Might be out right now.

ive heard that they cant really look up or jump, so if you just step up on a 2' high stump they cant touch you. never tried it though. ive always wanted to bow hunt them (only ever shot them with the rifle) but my plans were to have the pistol exposed and ready on my belt for very fast and easy access in case the arrow only pissed him off and he needed a quick double tap to the skull. never had one charge after a shot. ive had one run at me when it saw me (or maybe it was just running in my direction, idk how good their eye sight is) but turned and ran away after the gun went off (had to shoot quick and took a very bad shot. got him running away when he turned broadside) any others either dropped in their tracks or, again, ran a short distance away. some prudence is needed, but i wouldnt get too concerned about being attacked.

Speaking of bow hunting here's a vid of one of the locals down along the Arkansas river.

What's cool is they're considered a nuisance animal like coyotes so no regulations or bag limits.

I went last year, and going again in April. There are so many great wild boar hunting ranches here in Cali. No tags needed, lodging and guide provided. They also skin and quarter them on sight. I went to the sportsman expo in Sac to sign up a hunt, a full weekend that ended with a 240lb Russian redstripe cost $600.00

Good boots for stalking, a giant cooler to haul to your processor, and a large caliber and your up and running. I take my M1a with an aim point. Last year I got one at 75yards. One shot stopped him on the spot.

I used Rawhide meats in Jamestown Ca, they put the perfect amount of seasoning and fat...The fat is the key. No dry crumbling!

Well don't be such a stranger. GN has shrunk to a smaller, devoted band of firearm-fanciers, but most of the regular posters here are from the days of Yore.

Will do bro...I think I came on in 1999 or 2000? I can't remember that far back! Anyone hear from HDR?
Yes still collecting, even in California but sadly a lot of that is going to change..

Like any other animal, the answer is it depends a lot on diet and habitat. In my experience the boars running around in the mountains of TN (I guess they are Russian boar more or less) have lean meat with a very mild flavor.

The last one I killed was years ago. He was about 350 pounds and dropped instantly with a .50 muzzleloader (round ball to the spine).

I took my wife to the Berghoff several years ago when we visited my brother in Chicago. A really unique place compared to most restaurants these days. Great food.

We will have to go back & try that sausage plate.

No shit. You DON'T want them invading your region. They destroy crops, plants and kill a lot of the indigenous species.
