    Ok I did it

I have never had an AR and really never wanted one but the world is always in flux.
So today looking around at PSA I found this at 200 off and just did it. Now I do not have
any clue what I have gotten myself into but.....it was a B/day impulse buy.

I need a lower at a later date.

Why Anderson? Just asking...just looked at the sight and like the look. Is there any other things I need to think about?
Tools, take down pin sizes, will i have to do some "fitting"? I am REALLY going into this blind.

You will need a roll pin punch set, a small hammer to use on said punches, an AR15 wrench or a spanner wrench (for the receiver extension castle nut), and a screw driver (for the pistol, grip screw). All those small parts may seem overwhelming at first, but it is really a very easy firearm to assemble once you know what you're doing. If you wish to protect the finish while you're driving in the roll pin for the bolt catch, you will need some duct tape or painters tape to cover the receiver.

Watch a few Youtube vids and download some step-by-step instructions with pics. For your first time, it will probably take you an hour. A well versed AR15 armorer can assemble a lower in 20 minutes if he's taking his time. Oh, and you might lose a spring or two and a detent while trying to install the front take-down pin. You may want to order extras for a couple of bucks (links to those parts below).

Sign up for the PSA daily email sales. I get 2 email a day and some times you can get a complete PSA lower with stock with free shipping for under $140.

The thing about AR15s these days is that almost everything is a standard size. Keep away from EARLY Colt because they have small and large receiver pin holes, but that's it other than mil spec -vs- commercial collapsible stock tubes.

Take a look at what came in the email today.

its a BLEM though, if that doesn't matter to you then its a good price and free shipping.
I bought one of their BLEM bolt carriers and couldn't find a thing wrong.
Its usually a nick, ding, or a rough spot in the finish.

I just bought (awaiting shipment) of a FosTech Magnesium AR lower from Centerfire and an upper and complete bolt carrier from Surplus Ammo.
The lower was $40, but after fees and shipping it was just under $60. The complete upper with bolt carrier, and I threw in a charging handle, was $118.
I'm thinking about playing with this build a little. Maybe a piston system, a collapsible stock that I'm not used to, like a minimalist type and probably some Magpul furniture and sights.
I'm working slow with this one, so it will be done in a few months.

Anderson receivers are milled from a forging. They are the lowest cost that I know of and quality. I built my AR pistol on one, used another to build a rifle. No issues of fit, no issues with magazines fitting the magazine well.

You can substitute a pair of channel locks covered in electrical tape for the roll pin punches and gently press the roll pins in. Also a putty knife is useful for installing the front takedown pin detent

I have a good bit of tools. But I will take ALL advice given. It looks as if the kit has 35 parts and the majority SMALL. Oh boy... but like I said "speriment"

I type the 1st number of the area code and my phone number pops up. Fucking sucks. But what the hell the nsa is watching this thread anyway.

Well, since no one has told you what you have gotten yourself into ... I'll give you a hint.

On the bright side you can always come here when you don't know if you should get option A or option B ...

    At least one!

I have been an AK-nut for decades, but about 15 or so years ago bought my first AR-15. Then seeing how easy they were to build I fell off the cliff and built a few more of varying ideas, like the lightest one I could build, and an M-4gery. I also had one competition built for my daughter to compete with, and knowing who oversaw the production makes it even more special.

Yep, you are standing over the edge, watch your step!!!!

And just think, you are in the golden age of building with the market flooded and prices plummeting, a buyer's market.

I may still have a copy of the document that a user here compiled with instructions and PICTURES for building an AR. Would you be interested in that if I can fund it?

I have gotten some solid advice from the members and I would never think I wouldn't, so another question.
The kit I bought needs a rear sight. Recommendations? I do not think a peep would work for me and I have no idea
how to pick the right rear sight and all of them the same height?
