    Question Looking for a SAA

Looking to acquire some of the iconic firearm models, 1911, Hi-Power, etc. and of course a Colt 1873 is one of those. Don't see much posted here about them so thought I'd ask.

Obviously one of the newer Colts would fit the bill but are there lower priced, quality alternatives? Was thinking about a Ruger. I like the Blackhawk but the adjustable sights aren't correct for a 73 so was thinking Vaquero. Also there seem to be more than a few clones coming out of Italy that might fit the price aspect but don't know if the quality is there?

Wasn't looking to add a new caliber, 45 Colt so unless it's a convertible model in 45/45ACP I was thinking 38/357. Any suggestions?

Strongly recommend the Ruger Bird's Head Vaquero in .45 ACP. I have an old model in .45 Colt and I shot this gun all the time. It has a natural pointability for lack of a better word. With .45 ACP you can shoot the cheap steel case ammo. That being said .45 Colt is a fun round to reload. My favorite load is a 255 grain cast lead full wadcutter (obtained from Matt's bullets) over 8.7 grains of Unique.

    Check out Uberti.
They have a lot of barrel lengths, finishes and grip options.
I know this because I was looking into getting a 5.5" bbl in a case hardened frame.

I have a Pietta, 1873 clone with a 4 3/4" barrel. The caliber is .45 Colt. It's a pleasure to shoot. It looks exactly like the Colt it's modeled after. Since the sights are fixed, it's just a matter of learning where the gun shoots and then to compensate for it.

.45 Colt is a great round.

However, I don't think a Ruger can be beaten by any other gun.

Look into the B/P revolvers there are a lot of people that love them. Just a thought.

Some SAA revolvers have tall front sights so they can be filed down for sighting-in.

I know, but my metal working skills would butcher the front sight. I find it's better to just leave them where they are and compensate.

Got one. Pietta copy of an 1858 Remington. Plan on added a Colt replica or two when I run across a deal.
