    10mm question

I hear a lot of people talking about 10mm as if it was the end all round for semi auto. But looking at buffalo bore and double tap load data for hard cast heavy bullets, out of something like a glock 29 it doesn't perform that much better than a similar 9mm +p out of a g19 or 45+p out of a compact 1911. So unless you are going for a g20 with 6" barrel or a g40 why all the hype?

Most of all speeds for it are based on 5-6" barrels using the 135gr load approaching 1600 fps.

Almost anything you see on a store shelf is garbage and nearly on the 40 s&w level.

The big deal is that if you hand load you can get 200 grain bullets supersonic and have 15+1 rounds. .357 is better ballistically with everything but the heaviest bullets.

Are you wanting to hunt with one? If you're looking at self defense loads in the 165gr to 180 gr I don't see the 9 or 45 coming close. I love my G29 and 3" S&W 610 and don't feel undergunned with either but if I want the full power range from the 10mm I'm going with my 5" model 610.

I bought a ruger red hawk 4" I'm 44 mag a few months ago and I like it, but it is large and some of the places I go hiking require concealed carry and open is not allowed. I can't easily conceal the 44 on my person, and don't like having it in a backpack. I am looking at a g29 to fill the animal/bad guy role. I also don't hate the idea of having a 10-15 rounds in the gun depending on the mag. I normally carry a g19 so it wouldn't be hard to go to the g29.
