I decided to mow from just before the darkest to just after, it was like having sunglasses on is all I can say. It's definitely weird looking, and the birds and insects were noticeably absent, but one bird made a weird call just before it got darkest.

Yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong. It was still kind of cool, how it got all dusk out so close to noon, the street lights came on, the birds got all quiet and returned to their nests, the cool crescent shapes the trees made in their shadows... how the temperature noticeably dropped a good 20 degrees...

    Here's one of my photos...

I used a spotting scope to project an image of the sun on a sheet of white paper (yeah I know I'm racist - I should have used black paper).

Anyway, I projected the image then photographed it, tweaked the contrast a bit and it turned out rather good...

Although we got 72% totality here, I shot this pic earlier and it's at only about 50% totality.

    I got a 1 1/2 minute totality where I am.

It sure did that's pretty cool

I was out doing yard work in the shadow.
I went into the barn and by accident found the cast light from a small nail hole in the roof projected on the floor
    Actually showed up pretty nice

    We enjoyed it.

I didn't see anything special. The sun gets eclipsed by clouds dozens of times a year. Today was just another day that the clouds eclipsed the sun.

Just got back from North Platte NE. It was definitely worth the trip. We had eclipse glasses. Once it went total they went completely black and it was safe to see it with the naked eye.

All I can say is WOW! A photograph doesn't even come close to representing the sight. I told my wife it was like looking to God's eye. Just mesmerizing.

LAGC, we noticed the crescent shaped lighting effects from the light filtering though the trees.

I'm so jealous. I'm really kicking myself for not making the short trip to see it in 100% totality.

Now it's on my bucketlist, I do plan on witnessing a TOTAL eclipse before I die.

Next one is 7 years from now.

I had to convince my wife to take the day off. I told her I was pulling the kids out of school and we were going anyway.

She was actually moved to tears when she saw it. That's pretty amazing considering she is a professional geologist! I have to admit it was an almost spiritual event for me too.

Un-f---ing believable! The media trying to make a SOLAR ECLIPSE have a "racial" content.

0bama started the racial ruin of America... and the press will finish it.

Yeah that was very weird. There were shadows, but everything "felt" wrong.

Interesting that a person doesn't consciously notice the crescent shaped shadows, but subconsciously they are instantly noticed and provoke feelings of "wrongness".

Great pic! You can see the sun spots coming in from the left.

I look at these events as spiritual in nature too, as the bible says these are for signs of the times. I consider the physical manifestation of the multiverse (ie the part we can see, feel, and touch) to be a timepiece, counting down to the day of judgement.

Krupski - fantastic shot! What kind of camera did you use to take that shot?

As both my 35mm's crapped out on me, all I had was a Canon "point&shoot". I maxed its zoom out to 16x which is "digital zoom" (twice the optical) and got what I could. We only had about 30 seconds of totality where we were. I'm hoping I'm around for the one on 4/8/2024 as they have already said that totality in the Cape Girardeau, MO, will be over 4 minutes!!

I used my son's spotting scope set to 20X magnification, then used it to project the image of the sun on a sheet of white paper.

Then I photographed it with a simple point-n-shoot camera, then stuck the image into the photo editor and tweaked the contrast a bit.

What I SHOULD have done was attached my DSLR to my telescope with the welding filter in front of it and taken a proper photo.

But, since we weren't getting 100% totality, I didn't bother.

The eclipse of 2024 totality DOES pass over me, so I'll do it right that time!
