Question Any S&W Bottom Feeder Fans?

As some of you may know I'm a long time admirer and accumulator of S&W wheel guns but be that as it may I've always had a passing fancy for their 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation auto pistols. As with most of my collection I tend to local finds in the best and most complete condition I can find.

I've passed up a very nice 639 once but did score a minty in box blued M39 that I really enjoyed before letting it go, at a nice profit to a coworker. Next came only the second deal I ever got at Gander Mountain, a very nice 645 with box and box original mags for $399. Great shooting 45 ACP that will actually feed empty cases straight out of the mag.

I've been on the look out for one of the 10mm models but haven't managed one of those yet. This weekend I ran across a 99% Model 4506-1 with adjustable sights. It's just the pistol and one original mag priced at $495.00. The asking price isn't out of line IMO. In fact I think it might be a bit of a deal but I think I can get them down to $400-$425 which I feel would be a very good price. Mags are available but not the cheapest. Fortunately I picked up several, lightly used factory mags when I got the M645 and they will work in the 4506 so I'd have that covered. I just feel that two mags are the bare minimum at least as far as a firearm not primarily intended for hunting. Later this week I'll make an offer.

I'd also like a Performance Center 952-2 long slide but given the price on those it might be a long while before one of those takes its place in the armory.

Also thinking about picking up an M&M 2.0 in 9mm and that little bobtail E Series 1911, the model # of escapes me at the moment.

Anyone else a fan of these autos?

I like S&W revolvers but I don't see anything special about S&W pistols. Not that I wouldn't get one for a good price, and that 4506 seems like a good price. I am sure they are good quality pistols but they seem to be remakes of something else (1911, Hi-Powers, Berettas, etc). The M&P is a unique pistol, but I don't like the looks of it as much as the Glocks. Now, if I shot one that might change my mind about the looks, but I don't know anyone who has one.

Not trying to talk you out of anything, this is purely an opinion post, no science or actual trigger time with any of the guns (except for at least one revolver).

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Finally talked myself into it so I'm gonna run by this morning and see if the S&W 4506-1 is still available.
