    Had something happen professionally

Few days a go I took my EOD master board, leading up to it was 30, 14-16 hour days, studying, researching, and building highly detailed scenarios. On the days of, I was grilled for hours, put in the end I passed.

It has taken me almost 8 years to reach this level. Opens up a lot of possibilities for me, such as making chief, and maybe going for LDO (limited duty officer).

Congratulations shipmate. How much of your job would change in you became an officer? More desk time than E-7, 8 or 9? Could you go warrant?

Congratulations! That is quite an accomplishment, especially in the short time you have been in. Let me know if you have questions concerning LDO/CWO and keep up the good work!

I tried to push the envelope, but found that it was stationery.

Current plan is to wait to pick up Chief (e-7), do my shore duty, then get my LCPO team ride, and after that around my 14-15 year mark apply for LDO. Then get one more team ride as an officer before being stuck behind a desk. That would put me at around 25 years of service before retirement, but right now I wouldn't mind doing 30.

Sounds like a plan and I wish you all the best. I had every intention of making it a career but after 8 with a wife and young daughter I decided I couldn't do the job at my best and be there for my family like I wanted so I bagged it. That was 31 years ago. Still miss it and though I don't regret my decision I do wonder where I would have gone had I stayed in?

Remember, to be selected for LDO you have to have between 8-14 years of service figured to 1 Oct of the next year and be a PO1 that has passed the CPO test. If you wait till 14 years you will not be eligible. You can apply for CWO, but I don't remember if we still have EOD CWOs (or if we have LDOs, for that matter. I know we have one, I just don't remember which one). For CWO you have to be a Chief with 14-20 years of service.
