    Question Any 5.56 you want

If money was no object which 5.56x45 rifle/carbine would you pick? It can be something currently produced or something long out of production and only available on the secondary market. If you'd like you can opt for more than one choice such as one for home defense, one for plinking, one for hunting, competition, etc.

Since I don't compete and no longer hunt I'll go with just two.

Plinking and general range work: Standard Colt or other maker A4 rifle, 20" bbl, fixed stock, full length hand guards, etc. Nothing fancy just a good solid example of a basic issue rifle.

Home defense/tactical: This was a hard one for me. I thought about the advantages and disadvantages of all the gas piston guns, bull pup designs, etc. In the end I decided on the H&K MR556A1.

    What are your choices?

Any of the Sig piston AR type rifles would also be a good choice. I'm sure the HK would be fine, but HK being HK I'm sure they want a premium price for it.

I was tied between the H&K and the Sig 550 but I couldn't find a civilian version of the 550.

    Wouldn't that be the SIG556? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_SG...ilian_variants

I would probably make sense for it to take Stanag mags too but I really like the looks of the military issue rifle, mags and all.

Nah, I'd rather go with a Tavor than an Aug.

HK 33 with all accessories, bipod, 40rd mags, mag loader, scope mount and proper scope.
I own a C93 (HK clone) and comparing it to the AR platform is like comparing a horse and carriage (AR) to a Mercedes (HK33)

Or a Stoner 63 with ALL accessories to change it around. Top feed magazine, bottom feed magazine, belt fed and electric heavy barrel belt fed parts.
One platform that does almost everything.

Or a nicely decked out high-end AR platform or minigun.

    The new Kel-Tec bullpup.

And I would love something like a Handi-Rifle in 5.56. The one I have in .30-30 is dead on at 100 yds. with reloads.

I wasn't thinking about NFA stuff when I started this thread but looking at other posts, if I was going that route I'd go with an M249 and a Spanish CETME Ameli.

I would not turn down any of the ones mentioned. If I was doing the buying, though, I would have to throw my money at a Tavor. Besides the documented performance it looks like a battle rifle. The others just don't look quite as "beefy", like it would be damaged if it was used to do something other than shoot.

I should note that I was talking about the beefiness of the other bullpup style rifles. The FNs, SIGs, ect, look like a rifle which makes them beefy enough to use as a club if necessary.

    hmm,

Probably one of the rifles in the Sig 550 family (it would be hard to pick which one)

    Or an FNC

it would be hard to narrow it down, I've always wanted one of both of those.

    Either a HK G41 or a SIG 550. I can't decide.
Here's to pussy and gunpowder. One to live for, the other to die by.....Goddamn though, I do love the smell of 'em both !!!
