    Problems For The Military

It appears the Office of the US Army Materiel Command rushed to approve the new military handgun that will replace the Beretta sidearm.

They're encountering problems with reliability, safety, failure to eject FMJ rounds, etc.

"...the GAO’s judgment in June 2017 suggests that the branch ended up selecting Sig Sauer’s entry due to its relatively lower price point for a two-gun proposal that offered “overall the best value to the government.”

You get what you pay for.....

Too bad they haven't thought to stick with "Old Reliable," the 1911. I know it won't hold as many rounds, but it's the Kalishnikov of handguns. It'll "take a licking and keep on ticking."

Heard about the "drop issue" some months back. As I recall the pistol has to land on a relatively specific spot to discharge and they already figured out it was due to a certain trigger being too heavy or light, can't recall whichever? Of course if you don't drop it the problem goes away on its own.

Seems rather odd that they are having feed issues with FMJ as that's the only ammo they issue AFAIK and it has to be the ammo used in the evaluation stage.

It should have been tested with 124 gr. FMJ NATO spec ammo. If they didn't approve it with that then somebody probably got a kick-back. That or it was an Obama appointed person that did the evaluation.

Apparently the military wanted it tested with their new hollow point ammo which it did ok with. It actually was the ball ammo that it had problems with.

Kind of funny that they are worried about the guns only working with one type of ammo when you consider how many decades there was only 230gr 45 ACP.

Probably for special forces use they want the HP to work. OTOH my Glock 19 has never failed to fire and feed any bullet be it FMJ or HP.

Looks like some of the stoppages were due to the grip of the shooter riding the slide lock which kept the slide from locking open on an empty magazine.
