Good lord, are we living in the 50s. Who is this idiot "military expert", is she about to tell us to hide under our school desks in case of nuclear attack? (they actually told us that in the 5th grade)

I was pretty surprised to learn that the stem of the mushroom cloud was comprised of humans who had been sucked up into it from miles away...now i'm really scared.

That would be an "E.L.E.", otherwise known as a "world-killer".
Just remember - the one that hit in the Caribbean on the edge of the Yucatan peninsula that was the main reason for the demise of the dinosaurs was only about SIX MILES in size.

I remember those "bomb drills" but I also remember the ones where they got us into the hallways, all scrunched up and covering the backs of our necks with our hands for "storm drills".

A tweet I recently read that seems to apply here:

"Everything you read makes sense if you simply translate "experts" as "crazy people"."
If we refuse to rule ourselves with reason, then we shall be ruled by our passions.

He, Who Will Not Reason, Is a Bigot; He, Who Cannot, Is a Fool; and He, Who Dares Not, Is a Slave. -Sir William Drummond

There are some things I will not abide within my sight!

A coal mine town in Southern IL-ANNOY where I grew up was one of the towns hit by the infamous "tri-state tornado" of 1925. Long before I was around (or my Mother) but my grandparents lived through it.
That's why my school had the drills when I was in elementary school in the early '60s.

She didn't mention the fact that ruskii hypersonics launched from subs at their range limit could reach a coastal target in 5 mins or less, not enough time for a mentally deficient cic to contemplate a response but would probably opt for ice cream.
"And how we burned in the camps later thinking, what would things have been like, if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain, whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?"
