    Music thread.

I think , we had a music thread on old GN. Figured I'd start a new one.
I will be linking different things here, mostly Russian (hence the name of the forum) I think a lot of it can be enjoyed by non-Russian speakers and music lovers.
Anyone should feel free to contribute and ask questions if there are any.

I'll start off with an old Cossack song called "Black Raven". In a couple of words, it is a song of a dying soldier...a farewell message, so to speak. He is asking the raven , which will feast on him after the passing to bring a message to his mother that he had died fighting for his country. And a message to his beloved, that she is now free as he has chosen death as his bride....

Here is another very pretty song. This one has Balkan roots. The origins are argued to be Macedonian, Bulgarian or Serbian. Either way:
    Here is the translation:

"O burning Sun, o bright Sun,
    Set, go dark,
And you too o, clear Moon,
    Begone, drown yourself.

    Darken forest, darken sister,
    Let us both sorrow,
You for your leaves o, forest,
    Me for my youth.

    Your leaves forest, sister,
    Will be back again,
My youth o, forest o, sister,
    Will never return.

I dont have specific links for a good download site, but this one has a lot of music in it: http://www.zaycev.net/ it, unfortunately, it is in Russian, and has some links and that may not be work safe.
Also, you can rip music right out of Youtube with this: http://www.youtube-mp3.org/
And, lastly, I have most of it in MP3s and if you need any of them PM me with your email address and I will email it to you if I have it.

Yep....a funny story behind this one. That song actually had lyrics, but the soviet content controll had an issue with a cowboy riding through prarrie to get home...they deemed it too pro-American and anti-Soviet
He recorded this one somewhere in Finland, I think, and forgot that it ever existed until someone 40 years later put it on Youtube, making him a star again He came out in one vid and told the internet audience to come up with their own lyrics. Those will get voted on and whoever wins gets to sing it with him as a duet
That said, I have it as one of my ringtones

When they got somewhat famous (mostly to the fact that they recorded in NY and sang in English-ish) i was already listening to these guys:

As for the soviet hard rock, I thought these guys were a little better:
