Asked this in another thread but did not get any replies.
Is the Russian Optics Mount a stable enough for a site platform?
What is the best day/night optic to use with this mount?
I'm not looking for an expensive setup right now.

Are you referring to the side mount? If so, then yes, it's plenty stable to mount a sight to, that's what it was designed for. Are you looking for authentic Russian optics or what?
When you say "Best"...and "not expensive"...I'd be torn on what to recommend.
Lots of choices here though...

I meant that right now I want to get a stable platform...and it sounds like the side mount Russian Optic Mount is just that. After I get that installed, I'd like to buy a sight setup that is simple, practical, will withstand abuse, and is the preferred sight for quick target acquisition in daylight.
I put a side mount on one AK for a scope, I also put a beryl mount on an AK that mounts over the receiver cover not on it, the mount I use for a fast aquisition sight is a
gas tube top rail with a pistol 40mm red dot. I can sight in fast with the eye relief being close to the same as with a handgun.
Just me and my monkey....
Thanks for the reply.
Did you buy this one: http://dpharms.com/product_info.php?products_id=230 If so, it's priced right.
Or this one: http://dpharms.com/product_info.php?products_id=1000 Pricey!
What pistol red dot sight did you buy? Are you happy with it?

Check this new product out from RS Products. It's called the "AKM" mount and it's an outstanding alternative to using Russian optics. It allows you to mount an Aimpoint Comp M2/M3 to your AK without having to remove the optic to field strip your rifle. It mounts the Aimpoint low enough that you can actually 1/3 co-witness the iron sights.
I will be doing a full review of the mount here in a week or so and posting it to my YouTube channel.
Link? Would this be them?

It will work with any 30mm tube RDS, including the Vortex. I haven't yet tested it with the AKM mount to see if it co-witnesses, but I don't see why it wouldn't. I just hate say it works without first confirming it. I've mounted the Aimpoint to my SGL-31 for the review this weekend and will take the Vortex StrikeFire with me to the range and confirm it works in the review.
For those curious about the Vortex optic that we're talking about, here's some info on it (in case you've not heard of them):

Funny how AIM started promoting this product today as well!

You will start seeing more and more of this mount I think. It's a new company and product, it just hit the streets. I've had my T&E copy for about a week now and will be posting that review shortly. I just like to test things out before I comment on them. But it's one very well built mount and I look forward to the other variants due out shortly. I'm going to give serious consideration to the ACOG mount they show on their site (still under development).

Most of us have been hoping for an 'ultra-low' mount for the AK platform, for decades! And the fact that it's designed for a 30mm tube, will make Aimpoint|Vortex|Clone owners very happy!
By the way, very nice KRISS!

I agree, when I caught wind of this product some time back (when it was nothing more than a discussion board "what if") I was very excited. I hoped it would actually come to fruition and it did. Not only did it come to fruition, but it met my rather high expectations. It's about time we got this mount!
