American Flag "Drawing' not allowed in classroom

    Controversy over child's flag drawing
Teacher allegedly refused to hang up picture

ORANGE, Mass. (WWLP) - A civil rights controversy is brewing at an elementary school in the Town of Orange, and it all surrounds an11 year-old's drawing of the American Flag.

The family of Frankie Girard is claiming that their son's civil rights were violated after a teacher allegedly told him that hanging his picture of the American flag would offend another student.

The Butterfield Elementary School is at the center of controversy for the incident on Monday. According to Frankie Girard’s father, John, the boy was in art class drawing a picture.

"He was denied hanging the flag up. And, he asked if he could just even hang it on his desk, and he was told no. He could take the picture that he drew and take it home and be proud of it there,” Girard said.

So, that is where it is, among the hundreds of other family pictures and military honors that adorn the walls of the Girard family home.

According to his father, the teacher told Frankie that his drawing of the American Flag would offend one of his classmates. "We’re allowing him to display his civil rights and be proud of who he is, but we’re denying Franklin those same rights," Girard said.

22News tried to contact the Superintendent, Dr. Paul Burnim. He refused to go on camera, but told 22News over the phone that nobody ever told Franklin the drawing was offensive, and said the only reason it wasn't hung was because Franklin was supposed to be doing other work; not drawing a picture. In a statement he said: "Each of our schools flies the American Flag every day. At the Butterfield School, the Pledge of Allegiance is recited by students and staff. And the other schools recite the Pledge of Allegiance at least once per week."

The controversy is stirring heated debate within the Town of Orange. "I served 15 years in the military so that we could hang the flag wherever we wanted to, so I'm very offended," Faith Sullivan of Orange said.

A Facebook group called “I support Frankie Girard and the U.S. Flag” already has about 700 likes in two days.

The superintendent told 22News that Frankie's father is "going to extremes" and that the school has always respected the American Flag.

Here we go again. We really need both sides of the story, preferably without spin. If he wasn't doing an assigned task but this drawing then the school has a case but the statement:

The family of Frankie Girard is claiming that their son's civil rights were violated after a teacher allegedly told him that hanging his picture of the American flag would offend another student.
Pretty much shoots the school's case in the rear end if the teacher actually said that.

    What sounds more logical?

"The teachers said the flag would offend some illegal's Anchor Baby?"

    OR

"Little Frankie was supposed to be doing Fractions, instead he was drawing pictures. Our students need to know that they have to finish the tasks they are given BEFORE they do something else... regardless of the patriotism of the act.".

    ??

This school does recite the pledge (Which is something even I bearly agree with doing), so I doubt it is the first statement.

Except the story never says why the other kid would be offended? Did Frankie draw the flag and want to hang it when it was Edward's day to have his artwork hung?

The only thing I really know about this story is someone seems to have some rather thin skin

This reminds me of the Muslim bus driver story. It was all over the media: a fanatical Muslim bus driver had ordered passengers off his vehicle so he could pray. Muslim-haters came out of the woodwork, the poor man was maligned, insulted and threatened by white trash. Just one problem. The story was a total lie:

A London bus driver today accepted £30,000 in damages from the Sun over a claim that he ordered passengers off his vehicle so that he could pray.

The story in March last year caused Arunas Raulynaitis considerable distress and embarrassment, his solicitor, Stephen Loughrey, told Mr Justice Eady at the high court in London...

    Source
If this story's also made up let's hope the school sues Fox News and others for large amounts of money, and John Girard gets laughed at by his neighbours each time he sets foot on his front porch.

You might like to clean the shit out of your mouth. What is it with you bottom-obsessed Yankee boys? (a) You're too stupid to work an internet search engine and (b) you can't debate without mentioning excrement. Weird or what?

And so might you. As per your link, Fox only reported the story which they link back to the local station which broke the story.

From the I Support Frankie Girard, and The US FLAG Facebook Page. The group's one huge infestation of Muslim-haters, masquerading as patriots. Disgusting to use a child to spread Muslim-hate.

    Basic Information

    Affiliation

This page is not administered by any member of the Girard family. Just a concerned citizen who wanted to show support for this child.

    Biography

    Franklen and the Flag

This started when a boy in my sons class refused to say the pledge of allegience. My son didn't understand why and questioned him about it. Well this led to my son being punched in the face. That was about a week ago. This past Monday my son drew a flag to honor his siblings and another family member in support of their service. Please note that this a major topic in my household. He was refused to display this flag as the school determined it would be offensive to the other student. Their response was "You can hang it at home and be proud of it there." I took issue with their comments and spoke to the principal about it. We ended the conversation with then understanding that I was very displeased with their decision. About an hour later I got a phone call from the school where they were accusing my son of stealing a book from the school. It was a book my wife had purchased for him last month in a store in Athol. The school has several copies of the book also. There is one difference. Their copies are stamped with a school stamp. Franks is not. What the school has done has try to defame Franklen so as to silence him. He was yelled at by his teacher and the prncipal, told he was a liar and a thief. Never given the benefit of doubt. The school is afraid to take on the religous views and in fear of violating the civil rights of the other boy and in the process is violating Franks civil rights. According to the ACLU they are also breaking the new bullying laws. The school was hoping to bully Frank and myself into relenting. Once I had called the ACLU I received a call from the Superintendent of Orange Schools, he asked me if they were to allow Franklen to display his flag on his desk would that make this all go away. They just don't get it. Not too sure where it's going from here. I do hope I have answered your questions. John Girard (Franks dad)

I see the US Pledge of Allegiance was written by a socialist, Francis Bellamy. His cousin was novelist Edward Bellamy, also a socialist. So the Pledge emerged from a fine American socialist family.

Did you also notice that he was a "christian socialist" and that the pledge has been changed four times since he composed it? Not quite the same as the socialism you embrace.

Oh certainly. There's a long tradition of the British electing Christian Socialists to Parliament. Here's one. He retired as an MP quite recently.

Dickie, shall we keep my mother out of this? Or I'll start mentioning your mother and you may not like it. This is a coaster:
