What bullet grains can you run out of the 1-8 twist in the 5.56 bbl.
I know 55 and I would guess the 62 but when you start getting into the 70's
are you starting to push it?

Up to 80 grains
I have really good luck with the Hornady 75gr bthp match. Seen to hold about 3/4 moa
I have read and heard that the heavier ones would hold a better group.
Up to 80? Wow. Doubt I will ever load any but that is good to know.

After today, it's all historical.
The 80 gr. Sierra is to long to magazine load. It is for 600 yard long range rifle competition where the course of fire is prone and single loaded one round at a time through the ejector port on the rifle. 77 gr. Sierras are magazine loadable as are the 75 gr. Hornaday. 55 gr. bullets are not very accurate in 8 twist barrels, but it does depend on the quality of the bullet. The 55's are fast and the 8 twist makes them rotate very fast. I have seen the jackets fly off and the bullet explode in flight around 200 yards out from low cost 55 gr. projectiles.
