I have been toying with the idea of putting together an AR. Is a Rock River Arms lower receiver a reasonable starting point? I am completely ignorant regarding this, hence my request for information. Thanks.

I am putting together my very first AR as well. I've spent the last 3 months reading everything I can find on building ARs, toys for AR's ect. I'm pretty OCD on that kinda stuff.
A RRA lower will be just fine.
The last three ARs that I have built were done using a Rock River lower. 'nuff said!
Lowers are lowers. The only thing you might consider is resale value. Some people buy based on the etchings on the side.
These are the cheapest out there right now ,.....

Thanks everyone for the info. I noticed on another thread that someone mentioned a build guide. does anyone know where I could get a copy of that?
Palmetto (Olympic Arms) is the manufacturer that screwed Ak owners by chambering an AR pistol version in 7.62x39 thereby prompting the BATF to ban cheap surplus ammo because 7.62x39 immediately became a pistol caliber and the steel core ammo was then considered to be 'armor piercing' pistol ammo.
Several other manufacturers offered to pay Olympic not to do this. An offer that far out-weighed any potential sales profit of this firearm but Olympic refused. I will NEVER buy anything from Olympic EVER again.

The Congress shall have Power To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization
Just stay away from any of the older Olympic arms recievers, not just for reasons Texas Soldado stated but because NO plastic mags will work in their receivers.
I don't knowwhat the magic is but they won't lock into their receivers.
Oly has claimed that they are now mil spec, but still stay away from them.
Lowers are a-plenty out there on the interwebs. There are so many ways you can go, not just a standard lower look but unique designs.

My RRA is wonderfully built.
Trying to get on the no fly list, one post at a time.
These are out of stock at the moment, but more coming.

Wow, someone resurrected this old thread. I ended up buying a few Plum Crazy lowers. Bought a couple Del-Ton uppers and built (I use that term loosely. It was just putting a fully assembled upper and lower together) one AR for me and one for my son. We have about 500 rounds through each of them so far with absolutely no problems.
