The State Department downplayed comments from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) leaders that they are at war with America, arguing that their violence is not directed at any particular country or race. At a briefing Thursday, a reporter brought up anti-American comments from ISIL leaders: “I mean, even they are announcing, ISIL people in their message, whatever, the recorded message, other messages, that now we are in a war with America.” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf maintained, “Well, they can say whatever they’d like, but what I am making clear is that’s not what ISIL represents. And they don’t represent any religion. They are at war with everybody they come into contact with.”

Not sure why you label her as an "Islam apologist", she is correct, they are killing anyone who they disagree with in any slight way, or anyone who gets in their way.

They are just as happy killing any type of muslim, christian, whatever.

Simply because they are part of a particular religion does not mean they represent that religion as a whole, or that everything they do has anything to do with that religion.

Fred Phelps doesn't represent "Christianity", Hasidic Jews don't represent Judaism.

Or for a more recent comparison, looters in Ferguson don't represent Christianity...although most, possibly even all, are likely Christians.

Their leaders may claim they are at war with the US, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with that idea. A lot of these guys make all kinds of crazy claims, consider Iran over the years.
